FORT WORTH (CSBDFW.COM) – A grand jury has indicted a former North Texas high school journalism teacher on two counts of producing child pornography.

Police arrested 38-year-old Gregory Bogomol in May after a 15-year-old Louisiana boy accused him of asking for nude photos through a smart phone app. Police say Bogomol was pretending to be a girl.

Prosecutors say Bogomol did the same thing with another minor. Police say when they did a search of Bogomol’s home and phone, they found more sexually explicit images of minors.

Bogomol worked for the Denton Independent School District, but resigned from his position before he was arrested.

If convicted, Bogomol faces 15 to 30 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine for each count.

Prosecutors are asking any other potential victims to call 1-866-347-2423.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – A former North Texas high school journalism teacher has been indicted on two counts of production of child pornography.

Gregory Bogomol of Fort Worth was indicted Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors in Fort Worth say the indictment involves two alleged incidents in April with different minors. Bogomol was teaching at Denton High School but resigned shortly before being arrested in May.

Investigators say Bogomol, who remains in custody, was charged after the parents of a 15-year-old Louisiana boy reported he received suggestive cellphone messages from someone who pretended to be a girl. The teen responded by providing a nude photo of himself but refused to send more images.

Details weren’t immediately available about the second case.

If convicted, Bogomol faces up to 30 years in prison on each count.

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A Grand Prairie man has been sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison following his guilty plea to felony child pornography charges.

Kevin Miles, 44, was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison followed by 10-years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty in April 2013 to one count of transportation of child pornography.

Miles worked from home as a computer software support technician and was identified during a 2012 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigation as sharing child pornography from his computer.

Police obtained a search warrant and found 422 images and 33 videos classified as child pornography on Miles’ computer. Investigators also found several chats on Miles computer where he talked about the exploitation of children and his interest in molesting small children.

Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, was instrumental in the prosecution of this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Camile Sparks prosecuted the case.

Pedophile Gets Stacked Sentences After Years of Molesting Relative

McKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - Tom Iles White, 41, of Plano, received a sentence of 30 years without the possibility of parole for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Young Child, with 10 more years stacked on top for Indecency with a Child, announced Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis.

Evidence showed that White began showing his relative pornography when she was just four years old, and began molesting her around the age of six. From that time until she was 12, he would make her participate in sexual acts multiple times a week.

Finally, the 12-year-old victim was able to confide to an adult relative what had been happening to her for so long — she “just wanted it to stop.” The police were called and all of the children were immediately removed from the home. Plano Police officers responded and investigated, as did Child Protective Services.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives discovered that White’s work laptop and the tower containing the hard drive to his home computer had disappeared. Testimony revealed that he previously always had his laptop with him, and the computer tower had been in the home before the mother left. However, a bag of teenage-themed pornography was found in White’s closet.

The jury returned a guilty verdict Thursday for one count of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Young Child, four counts of Indecency with a Child by Contact and one count of Indecency with a Child by Exposure. On Friday, the jury then sentenced White to 30 years without parole on the first count, 10 years each on the Indecency by Contacts and five years for Indecency by Exposure. Presiding Judge James Fry stacked the sentences to equal 40 years total.

Assistant District Attorneys Crystal Levonius and Daniel Lewis prosecuted the case, assisted by District Attorney Investigator Kenneth Newton. The case was investigated by Plano Police Detectives James Phelan and Chris Jones.

FORT WORTH, Texas (CBSDFW/AP) – A former North Texas high school journalism teacher faces up to 60 years in federal prison for soliciting teens for child pornography.

38-year-old Gregory Bogomol of Fort Worth pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of production of child pornography. Each count carries a maximum statutory penalty of 15 years in federal prison and a maximum of 30 years in federal prison and up to a lifetime of supervised release.

Bogomol, a former Denton High School teacher, faces sentencing Feb. 12 in Fort Worth.

The investigation began after the parents of a 15-year-old Louisiana boy reported he received suggestive cellphone messages from someone pretending to be a girl.

Prosecutors say Bogomol in April coerced a boy into sending a sexually explicit image of himself by threatening to send sexually explicit pictures of the boy to the boy’s friends via social media. A few days later Bogomol coerced another child to also send a suggestive image.

Bogomol resigned his teaching position shortly before being arrested in May.

Teen Posing As 6th Grader Arrested For Possession Of Child Pornography

HURST (CBSDFW.COM) – A 17-year-old posing as a 6th grader in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District has been arrested for possession of child pornography.

Operating on a tip, detectives with the Hurst Police Department raided a Fort Worth home this week. Authorities seized a large amount of evidence of child pornography and exploitation of children.

Randy Ray Wesson, 28, was arrested on charges of possession with intent to promote child pornography, sale of harmful materials, and tampering with government records. Also arrested was Ricardo Javid Lugo, 17.

Police say Lugo, an American, was living in Mexico when he was lured to North Texas on social media by Wesson. Investigators say Wesson forged paperwork to enroll Lugo at Hurst Hills Elementary and acted as his father.

In August, Lugo passed himself off as 12-year-old and enrolled in the 6th grade. The investigation uncovered the counterfeit documents presented to the school to support his false age.

A representative with the district says the student was removed from class on Tuesday by Child Protective Services. The district, which says it is cooperating with police, released the following statement.

“Hurst Hills staff followed all procedures regarding enrollment when the student was enrolled in August. There was no indication that the student’s records were forged or that the student was too old to attend elementary school. The student’s behavior at school also did not raise any concerns.”

Administrators with the district have reached out to the parents of 6th grade students, and a letter is being distributed to students.

Parents told CBS 11 News they were shocked to learn their kids may have been attending school with a possible child pornographer. Father Danny Scott said, “I don’t understand how the documents could have been forged to the point where, ya know, no one in the school could figure it out. Obviously, I’m shocked.”

Police say so far they haven’t found any victims at the school, but they suspect hundreds of child pornography photos were collected and distributed on social media.

“We do believe that there will be child victims in our region,” said Hurst police Sgt. Craig Teague.

While the school admissions and police involvement helped calm Scott, he still had a lot of questions. He asked, “Is this one bad person that got into the school or is there more to this? Are there more kids involved? How widespread is this? Who did this child, this 17-year-old kid, who did he influence?” Many other parents are also hoping questions like those can soon be answered.

The Hurst Police Department has teamed with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and federal agencies in their investigation.

Anyone who has had contact with the arrested individuals and is concerned about their child should contact Hurst police at 817-788-7146.

Hurst Police Say Men Lured Kids Into Porn

HURST (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Hurst are looking for victims after arresting a man on child pornography charges. The suspect has already confessed to abusing dozens of children, authorities said, and he did not work alone. The case has many parents concerned and even frightened for their kids.

This is also a case of forged identity. According to police, 28-year-old Randy Wesson used fake documents to enroll 17-year-old Richard Lugo into Hurst Hills Elementary School. Lugo then posed as a 12-year-old student with the goal of luring others — between the ages of 7 and 15 — into child pornography.

Detectives believe that the two men met online. The arrest warrant said that Wesson and Lugo talked about recruiting victims from the school and telling the kids not to tell anyone about the ordeal.

Wesson’s neighbors said that the suspect even had a story to convince everyone that Lugo was his son. “When I first met him, he told me a long sob story about how he found his long lost son that he never knew he had,” recalled Arturo Castrellon.

The investigation began when the Dallas Police Department received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The group found an explicit image posted on Instagram from a user in the DFW area. Dallas authorities passed the information to officials in Hurst. Wesson’s father has also said that he had found his son looking at child pornography.

According to the arrest affidavit, detectives discovered more than 40,000 explicit images at Wesson’s home, along with fake documents including a counterfeit birth certificate. Wesson is now in federal custody while Lugo remains with the Hurst Police Department, waiting to be transferred next week.

The school said that it followed every rule when Lugo enrolled back in August. The fake student was using Wesson’s last name.

Authorities are now trying to determine the full scope of this case. School officials are urging parents to have a discussion with their children, and ask if anyone had contact with Lugo. But, so far, nobody has come forward. Counselors are also on hand at the school through next week, ready to help any kids who may need assistance.

Wesson made his first appearance in federal court Friday morning, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeff Cureton.  He said, “yes sir” when he was asked if had read the complaint.  Wesson’s next court appearance will be Tuesday at 11 am.  According to prosecutors, he could enter a plea at that time.

Feds Get Case Involving Alleged Child Porn Scheme

HURST (AP) — A Hurst man accused of attempting to exploit children by having a 17-year-old pose as a 6th grade student has been transferred to federal custody.

Authorities also have established a hotline for “anyone who may have been victimized related to” the case of 28-year-old Randy Ray Wesson, according to a statement Friday from Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Saleem.

The news release does not contain attorney information for Wesson, and messages left Saturday at Saleem’s office were not immediately returned.

Investigators raided Wesson’s home in Hurst, outside Fort Worth, on Tuesday, after a lengthy investigation that grew out of a single obscene photo of a man and a boy in a sex act on Instagram. Police subsequently discovered more than 40,000 child pornography images.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Wesson’s court records say he admitted to sexually assaulting more than 100 children ages 7 to 14 and even identified dozens by name. The Fort Worth Star Telegram cites Wesson’s arrest warrant in reporting that he told police he sexually assaulted more than 100 children between the same ages.

Wesson faces federal charges of transporting and shipping child pornography. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey L. Cureton in Fort Worth on Friday, and has a preliminary hearing set for Tuesday.

A 17-year-old runaway is accused of providing fake documents and posing as Wesson’s 12-year-old son to enroll at Hurst Hills Elementary School. The teen faces charges of possessing child pornography and was being held Saturday at Hurst City Jail.

The teen told authorities he met Wesson through Instagram and that the pair had a sexual relationship. According to the Morning News, the teen’s arrest warrant states that messages found on his phone indicate he was “recruiting possible victims from school for himself and Randy.”

In June, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children spotted an obscene Instagram photo, and police later tracked that to an IP address to a home in north Fort Worth. Authorities subsequently uncovered suspicious Internet forum posts that helped them find Wesson.

Wesson had previously been investigated in 2012, but no charges were filed. He was then working at an aquarium, where a mother complained to police that he had picked up her 4-year-old son and volunteered to babysit. Police investigated that case, but found no evidence of wrongdoing.

HURST (CBSDFW.COM) - One of the suspects in a Hurst child pornography case could be moved to another jail on Monday. Ricardo Lugo is one of two men who were arrested in connection with this case. He is currently sitting behind bars in Hurst, but the 17-year-old suspect may be transferred to the Tarrant County jail on Monday.

Authorities have said that Lugo was posing as a 12-year-old sixth-grade student at Hurst Hills Elementary School. The teen was allegedly enrolled by fellow suspect Randy Wesson back in August. He was there until his arrest last week. A police affidavit said that Wesson was posing as Lugo’s father and used counterfeit documents.

The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office has officially charged Lugo with possession with intent to promote child pornography. That is a state charge. Lugo’s bond has been set at $250,000.

Authorities were tipped off about Wesson last June, but the investigation stalled because the lead detective was out on medical leave for 10 weeks.

During questioning, Wesson told police that he sexually abused more than 100 children, and admitted to possessing an estimated 42,000 illegal pornographic images. The Department of Homeland Security is now combing through various computers, phones, hard drives and DVDs which were confiscated from the 28-year-old suspect’s home last week.

Wesson also told authorities that the plan was for Lugo to help lure schoolchildren to Wesson.

Many parents with children attending Hurst Hills Elementary School had discussions with their kids over the weekend. However, as of Friday, police in Hurst said that nobody has come forward to report any possible victims. Anybody who had close contact with either Lugo or Wesson is urged to contact police.

Wesson’s initial arraignment in federal court was on Friday in Fort Worth. Wesson has been charged with possession with intent to promote child pornography, the sale and display of harmful material, and tampering with governmental record. His bond has been set at $3 million.

PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) – A federal grand jury has indicted a deputy with the Denton County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) on child pornography charges.

Joe Edward Cummings is accused of possessing digital child pornography files, storing them in a cloud-based service and sharing the porn with others online.

The investigation into Cummings’ alleged activity, conducted by several different agencies, including the United States Secret Service and the Texas Rangers began in October. The DCSO assisted with the investigation and placed Cummings on leave October 27, 2014.

According to the two-count indictment, some of the photos found were of underage girls with adult men.

Officials say the case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat what they call the “epidemic” of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

State and federal officials arrested Cummings on December 12, 2014. He had worked for the DCSO for more than 18 years.

If convicted, Cummings faces up to 40 years in prison and fines of up to $500,000.

HURST (CBS 11 NEWS)Hurst police have charged 17-year-old Ricardo Lugo with indecency with a child amid accusations he fondled a boy in the 3rd grade.

Authorities say the crime happened inside Hurst Hills Elementary School. It was there where Lugo posed as a 6th grade student.

Richard Howard is the father of a 2nd grader at the school. “It is scary especially as a father when you have an eight-year-old son. If it happens here, it can happen anywhere.”

Authorities first arrested Lugo in November, along with the man who posed as his father, 28-year-old Randy Wesson. Police say Wesson enrolled Lugo in the school using phony documents.

Investigators have charged both men with Possession of Child Pornography, claiming Wesson had more than 42,000 explicit photos on his computer.

Hurst Assistant Police Chief Richard Winstanley has worked on many cases during his 40 years in law enforcement. “This is probably one of the oddest ones [cases]. Nothing really surprises anymore,” he said. “But to think about what those two did to accomplish what they wanted to do… it’s a pretty twisted sense of criminality right there.”

Police say the victim’s parents came forward recently.

HEB ISD spokeswoman Judy Ramos says the case should serve as an important reminder to parents. “This needs to be something parents can talk to their children about to try to ascertain information that might be valuable in this case.”

Father Richard Howard says he and his wife have already spoken with their son. “Since he’s been going to school, we’ve had our good touch, bad touch talk.”

Police say they’re concerned more victims could come forward.

A judge increased Lugo’s bond from $250,000 to $300,000. The teenager remains in the Tarrant County jail.

COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – A McKinney man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after admitting his guilt to a number of child sex abuse and pornography charges, involving an underage girl.

Officials with the Collin County District Attorney’s Office say Rontae Thornton’s victim was the daughter of a woman he was dating. They say Thornton had been in the relationship for several years when the then 13-year-old said she woke up from a nap to Thornton having sex with her. It was then that Thornton began a relationship with the underage victim, having sex with her twice a week and making plans to “run away with her.”

The victim became pregnant with Thornton’s child when she was 14, and subsequently had an abortion.

Thornton was arrested on March 12, 2014, after a McKinney police officer stopped him for a traffic violation as he and the victim were leaving a motel around 2:30 a.m. The officer said he suspected there was some type improper relationship because of the time of night, the disparity in age of the two people in the vehicle, and the fact that they were leaving a motel.

As the police Sergeant investigated further he found inappropriate text messages, photos and videos on Thornton’s phone. After his arrest, Thornton confessed to McKinney police. Despite his confession Thornton chose to go to trial, but after the testimony of the arresting officer changed his plea from “not guilty” to “guilty.”

Judge Richard Davis sentenced Thornton to 40 years in prison without the possibility of parole for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, and also handed down sentences of 10 years each for the Sexual Assault of a Child and Possession of Child Pornography, all to run concurrently.

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) –  A special needs instructor at Mansfield Independent School District’s Mary Orr Intermediate School, has been charged in a federal complaint with production of child pornography.

Kelly Dan Williams, 62, was arrested Friday on the federal offense, and he made his initial appearance Monday in federal court in Fort Worth where a judge ordered he remain in federal custody pending a probable cause and detention hearing set for Wednesday morning.

According to the filed complaint, on June 1, 2015, an individual at Mary Orr Intermediate School observed Williams performing a sex act on an 11-year-old male student in a school bathroom stall. This individual reported this to the school’s administration, and Williams was directed to report to the Human Resources office.

During the course of an investigation, Mansfield Police obtained a search warrant for Williams’ residence, where they seized electronic storage devices, to include an SD card. A forensic examination revealed that a video located on the SD card depicted Williams performing a sex act on a minor male, who appears to be younger than age 12, in what appears to be a school bathroom stall. Further forensic analysis indicates that the video was created on or about February 3, 2010.

A federal complaint is a written statement of the essential facts of the offenses charged and must be made under oath before a magistrate judge. A defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. The maximum statutory penalty for the offense as charged is not less than 15 years, or more than 30 years, in federal prison, a $250,000 fine and a lifetime of supervised release.

Hunt County Child Pornographer Sentenced To 60 Years

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A Hunt County man has been sentenced to 60 years in federal prison for two counts of production of child pornography Thursday afternoon.

The sentence comes after 32-year-old Stephen Walker pleaded guilty in February, with the investigation beginning November of last year.

A memory card containing images of child pornography had been found at a deer lease in a hunting club in Marion County. After it was turned into the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, it was discovered that the deer lease had been used by Walker.

A search warrant of the memory card revealed it contained multiple sexually explicit videos of prepubescent child pornography that had been taken at Walker’s previous residence in Rowlett. The case found that in September 2006, Walker had a seven-year-old female child engage in sexually explicit conduct that he photographed. In November 2010, Walker enticed a three-year-old female child to engage in sexually explicit conduct that he video-recorded.

According to the press release, the case was brought by Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006. It aims to “combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.” It is headed by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices, and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section. Project Safe Childhood uses federal, state and local resources to “better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals, who sexually exploit children, and identify and rescue victims.”
